LA City Council Declares Truce In Legal Battle Over Proposed Zoning Changes In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles City Council declared a truce Wednesday in the legal battle over proposed zoning changes in Hollywood.

KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta reported that the dispute centered on the 2012 Hollywood Community Plan, which could bring taller buildings—and more people—to some areas.

Three groups sued the city, and a judge ruled the update was fatally flawed.

Instead of appealing, Councilman Mitch O'Farrell said the city will reinstate the old, 1988 guidelines while working out the bugs in the new plan.

O'Farrell insisted, however, that the city needs an updated plan.

"That works for Hollywood circa 2014, not circa 1988," he said.

Attorney Beverly Palmer said she's worried about a part of the council's decision that applies to the rules for monitoring development changes throughout the city.

"We're concerned that the city isn't going to do the monitoring that it committed it would do to make sure growth did not overwhelm the city's infrastructure," she said.
