Man Beaten, Another Stabbed During Food Distribution Event At Roseville Park

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Part of Roseville's Saugstad Park was closed for over six hours Thursday after two violent incidents during a food distribution event.

Police tell CBS13 that, around 8 a.m., two people at the park were attacked. One person, a man is his 40's, was beaten and had to be taken to Sutter Roseville Hospital. He is currently listed in critical condition and is fighting for his life, police say.

Another person, a man in his mid-20's, was also attacked, police say. He was stabbed and also had to be taken to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police say that two people have been detained in connection to the attacks. Their identities have not been released.

The group What Would Jesus Do? was delivering food at the park Thursday morning. They regularly distribute food to the homeless at numerous areas in Roseville, Auburn and Colfax, according to the organization's website.

The part of the park closed off by police investigators was reopened by 2 p.m.
