A Night Out In Philadelphia's Midtown Village

Midtown Village is in the heart of Center City, from Broad to 11th Street and from Market to Spruce Street. In the past ten years, this area has seen remarkable growth and is now booming with popular restaurants and bars that are frequented by a diverse clientele. If you're planning a night out in Philadelphia, consider Midtown Village and the bars listed below.
Bar
1309 Sansom St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(267) 639-6491

Bar might just be the most difficult bar to research (and tell your friends you're going to!), not to mention its obvious name for a bar. As the name might suggest, Bar is a no-frills, simple dive bar that serves cheap beer and picklebacks (a shot of whiskey chased by a shot of pickle brine). The craft beer selection here is huge and, if you want to shoot a game of pool, head upstairs. Don't expect food here, but with its close proximity to many restaurants, finding something to fill your tummy won't be difficult (and Bar allows you to bring in your own).

Bru Craft & Wurst
1318 Chestnut St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 800-1079

Across from the Irish pub McGillin's Olde Ale House on Drury Street, rests a German beer garden, Bru Craft & Wurst. Bru has an (almost) unlimited list of beers, including 39 drafts and more than 100 bottles of both the domestic and import variety. Also, if you purchase a Haus Key from the bartender, you can pour yourself one of six beers from the self-serve beer wall. Its kitchen serves authentic German food - the Bavarian pretzel makes for a delicious late night snack.

McGillin's Olde Ale House
1310 Drury St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107

McGillin's Olde Ale House has the reputation for being the "oldest continuously operating tavern" in Philadelphia, having opened in 1860, the year Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This place is frequently named as one of the best Irish pubs in the city, not to mention country, and for good reason. It is frequently packed on the weekends and week days, especially during karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday. It has great specials during the week on beer pitchers, cocktails and food, like half priced pizza on Monday and a $6 meal special on Saturday. Two floors means there's plenty of room to roam around, and with 8 TVs, you won't miss a second of the game.

Opa
1311 Sansom St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
(215) 545-0170

Opa is a Modern Greek restaurant and bar on 13th Street. In fact, the term opa is an exclamation of "glee" in the Greek language. Come here for dinner before your night starts or late night to enjoy the fresh air and night sky at the Drury Beer Garden, located behind the restaurant. Opa serves authentic American-Greek fare, as well as wine, cocktails and beer. The Drury Beer Garden has its own selection of sandwiches and small bites, including popcorn, ice cream and a pork sandwiches. And for drinks, it offers a small group of cans, bottles, drafts and rotating wine.

Time Restaurant, Whiskey Bar and Taproom

The whiskey bar across from the dining room is a quieter alternative for those seeking out good conversation and drinks.
