Bar might just be the most difficult bar to research (and tell your friends you're going to!), not to mention its obvious name for a bar. As the name might suggest, Bar is a no-frills, simple dive bar that serves cheap beer and picklebacks (a shot of whiskey chased by a shot of pickle brine). The craft beer selection here is huge and, if you want to shoot a game of pool, head upstairs. Don't expect food here, but with its close proximity to many restaurants, finding something to fill your tummy won't be difficult (and Bar allows you to bring in your own).

Across from the Irish pub McGillin's Olde Ale House on Drury Street, rests a German beer garden, Bru Craft & Wurst. Bru has an (almost) unlimited list of beers, including 39 drafts and more than 100 bottles of both the domestic and import variety. McGillin's Olde Ale House has the reputation for being the "oldest continuously operating tavern" in Philadelphia, having opened in 1860, the year Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This place is frequently named as one of the best Irish pubs in the city, not to mention country, and for good reason. It is frequently packed on the weekends and week days, especially during karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday. It has great specials during the week on beer pitchers, cocktails and food, like half priced pizza on Monday and a $6 meal special on Saturday.
