Autopsy: Santa Ana Beating Victim Died Of Complications From Blunt Force Trauma

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A preliminary autopsy has been conducted on the young woman who died after being beaten outside a Santa Ana nightclub this past weekend.

Kim Pham of Westminster died of complications from blunt force trauma to the head, according to Corporal Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana police department.

The 23-year-old woman died Tuesday following the Jan. 18, altercation outside The Crosby, a popular downtown hangout.

Police have arrested one woman, identified as 25-year-old Vanesa Zavala of Santa Ana, in connection with Pham's death. Zavala was allegedly at the nightclub for a birthday party, according to an attorney familiar with the case.

Zavala, a mother of a 5-year-old, pleaded not guilty to murder and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for four additional suspects, described as two men and two women, while detectives review cell phone videos.

"We continue to look for the four additional suspects. We're making again a plea to them. We believe there's two sides to every story. We'd like to hear your side of the story," Bertagna said.

Although the circumstances surrounding the beating have not been released, detectives believe a group of people kicked Pham after she was knocked to the ground outside the club, according to KNX 1070's Mike Landa.
