Guns, Ammo Sell Like Hot Cakes Before Last San Francisco Gun Shop Closes Its Doors

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Customers are rushing to scoop up discounted firearms from San Francisco's last gun store before it closes its doors at the end of the month in protest of a proposal to videotape gun sales in the city.

"I have never seen it this busy, ever," High Bridge Arms General Manager Steven Alcairo said.

Alcairo says the store had so many customers Tuesday, they had to lock up an hour and a half early just to get to everyone in the line.

"I didn't expect it honestly.  I'm actually getting dizzy from it," Alcairo said.

Longtime customers are taking advantage or the sales, with some products discounted up to 35 percent.

Management announced last month that at the end of October they would close their doors for good, frustrated with a possible ordinance requiring they turn over surveillance video of every customer to police.

"I'm not an attorney, but I feel that's a privacy issue.  As a customer, that would deter me from shopping at a place," Alcairo said.

The store sold about 900 rounds of 9mm ammunition to about 20 customers Tuesday.

"They are going out as fast as they go in," Alcairo said.
