Off-Duty Windsor Police Officer Faces Drug Charge

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A police officer from Windsor, Ontario, has been charged with drug possession after crossing the Ambassador Bridge into the United States.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office said Tuesday that 31-year-old David Bshouty was off-duty when he was arrested, Saturday afternoon, by U.S. Border Patrol agents after cocaine was found.

He was arraigned Monday before Judge Michael Wagner on a charge of possession of under 25 grams of narcotics. Bond was set at $25,000/10 percent, and a preliminary examination was scheduled for April 25 at 9 a.m.

Wayne County Circuit Court online records did not list a defense attorney Tuesday for Bshouty.

The Ambassador Bridge spans the Detroit River and connects downtown Windsor in Canada to Detroit.
