Margate's Lucy The Elephant To Take ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
MARGATE, NJ (CBS) – It seems everyone is taking the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge these days.
Now, it's Lucy the Elephant's turn.
At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the massive, landmark elephant statue in Margate will have an "elephant sized amount of water" poured over her head.
According to Rich Helfant, the CEO of Lucy the Elephant, Lucy is taking the challenge in honor of Diane Riportella, a volunteer who died of ALS in 2012.
"The Ice Challenge has become a National phenomenon and if we can honor Diane's memory, we are honored to," Helfant says.
He also says the Margate City Fire Department will be doing the honors since Lucy is so large.
"Being the World's Largest Elephant, you can't just pour a bucket of water on her head," explains Helfant. "We are grateful to the M.C.F.D. for helping us make a SPLASH!"
Anyone who wants to watch Lucy take the challenge is invited to come out at 1 p.m.
