Quintonio LeGrier's Mother Blasts "Heartless" Chicago Police Officer

(CBS) -- Disrespectful. That's just one of the words the mother of Quintonio LeGrier uses to describe the officer who shot and killed her son and a neighbor.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot has the story of a mother's outrage.

The mother of Quintonio LeGrier says Chicago police officer Robert Rialmo is "heartless." Rialmo filed a counterclaim against her son's estate seeking up to $10 million on the grounds of emotional distress.

"I would just like to tell Robert, there's no amount on justice and that's what I want," Janet Cooksey said.

Rialmo says he had no choice but to shoot the teen who tried hitting him in the face with a bat. LeGrier was killed. Rialmo accidentally shot and killed neighbor Bettie Jones, too.

"It's very disrespectful," Cooksey said. "You take two lives. An innocent woman that was just opening the door and you take my son, who called three times for help…If my son was swinging a bat on you, explain how did you shoot Miss Jones?"

Cooksey says "a lot of things" are being covered up.

"Officer Robert, I want to let you know, my son is not going to let you lie," she said. "He's going to eat you alive. You're going to develop some conscience."

Rialmo's attorney Joel Brodsky says he understands a grieving mother would be in denial but says, the facts are her son tried to kill officer Rialmo and that's what caused her son and Bettie Jones, to be killed.
