NORTHGLENN, Colo. (CBS4) - No one was seriously injured after a small plane crashed into a home in Adams County Monday afternoon.

The single-engine plane was towing an Geico Insurance advertisement banner when it had a mechanical problem. The pilot cut the banner loose and attempted to land the plane in a nearby field but crashed into the home.

Nobody was in the home at the time of the crash and the pilot was able to get out of the burning wreckage.

Next door neighbor Lydia Chavez said she couldn't believe the pilot survived.

"It just exploded so fast. I don't know how he got out," she said.

Witness Christopher Hoy told CBS4 he entered the home to see if anybody was there.

"I went up to the front door, there was a gentleman inside the house. I took about two steps inside and yelled if anybody was home. He said nobody was home," Hoy said.

"At that point I didn't know that he was the pilot. He then identified himself that he was the pilot as he came out and grabbed the garden hose, was taking it back in trying to put the fire out."

Hoy said the pilot, who had cuts on his face, was completely calm.

"The entire staircase where he was crouched down was totally on fire," said Hoy.

North Metro Fire Rescue District spokeswoman Sara Farris also thinks it's amazing the pilot wasn't killed in the crash.

"For him to walk away from this incident it to me nothing short of a miracle," said Farris.

The pilot, who hasn't been identified, was being taken to the hospital as a precaution when he said he felt fine and wanted to be taken to the police station so he could file a report.

He then spent several hours with police but it is unknown if any charges will be filed and the investigation is ongoing.
