City Of Golden Offering Historic Home For Nearly Free

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) – The City of Golden is offering an opportunity to own a historic 1923 home for nearly free – but there's a catch.

The home currently sits at 18th and Illinois streets in Golden, where the Colorado School of Mines wants to build a new Welcome Center.

"The home currently located there is considered an important piece of history by the Historic Preservation Board," the City of Golden said in a statement. "So the City of Golden has persuaded CSM to give it to whoever can move it, in hopes of preserving the home."

The 935 square feet home must be moved by mid-May but the new owner must commit to moving it by Tuesday, April 1. The buyer will have to pay a nominal charge for the home since state property can't be given away.

"As we work to improve campus, we are making strong efforts to reuse existing sites and materials in accordance with sustainable construction practices," CSM said in a statement. "If it is feasible to do so, we have offered to sell structures slated for demolition and have them moved to another location."
