Marin, San Francisco Counties Ranked Healthiest Places In America To Raise Kids

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Bay Area kids have a better chance than most American kids to grow up healthy, according to a recent survey.

U.S. News indexed factors including infant death frequency, child poverty level and teen birth rates to determine where kids experienced the best overall health outcomes. Marin County set the curve, scoring 100 points in the publication's ranking of the top 50, followed closely by number two San Francisco County.

Both counties scored well below average all factors, which also included low birth weight and child injury frequency. San Mateo County (9) also cracked the top 10.

Also making the top 50 were Santa Clara County (19), Santa Cruz County (31), Alameda County (27) and Sonoma County (49).

Only about 1,200 of the nation's 3,143 counties were included in the study because many states don't collect the needed data on a county-level.
