Last-Minute ACA Enrollment Workshops Underway In South Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The last-minute push to enroll as many people as possible under the Affordable Care Act as possible is underway in South Florida.

Federal officials have allowed consumers who have begun to apply for health insurance coverage, but do not finish by deadline of March 31, to ask for an extension until mid-April.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will be in Miami at Mount Sanai Missionary Baptist Church at 698 NW 47th Terrace Saturday along with State Representative Cynthia Stafford and Rev. Johnny Barber for the "Souls to Enroll" event.

She will hold a press conference and afterwards, people will be on hand to assist community members with enrolling in affordable healthcare options from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Other events taking place include one at Miami-Dade College being dubbed the "Last Call" for Affordable Care Act workshops.

The workshops at MDC will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kendall, North and Wolfson Campuses.

They are free and open to the public although it is best to make an appointment. Click here to RSVP.

Trained volunteers will be on hand to help guide MDC students and the public on the application and enrollment process.

In Broward County, the "Last Push" event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the McNicol Community Center at 1411 South 28th Avenue in Hollywood.

It is recommended that anyone attending the ACA enrollment events Saturday should bring:

- Driver's license

- ID cards

- Proof of income – including the last three months of pay stubs and any statements from all income sources (alimony, child support, SSI, retirement accounts, etc.)

- Social security cards or numbers for applicants

- Immigration documents including a green card, certification of citizenship of naturalization

- A recent tax return\

- If applicable, proof of insurance.
