Boston's Best Places For Port Wine

Port wines are a sweeter "dessert" wine option made from red grapes. Although they are popular, many restaurants do not list them on their menus, sometimes making them hard to find when they are on your mind. No worries, though! Below you will find the top five spots in and around the city of Boston to order and enjoy port wines.

Barcelona is a hot spot in Brookline, Mass. that offers some of the best tapas you will ever have. The atmosphere is very cozy and the location is convenient, really making this place a win-win. Although the eatery is known for its sherries, it does offer a couple of port wines. Their most popular bottles are Warre's 20-year tawny and Quinta do Vesuvio 2001, both often ordered with dessert.

Cuchi Cuchi

795 Main St.
Cambridge, MA 02139

This establishment was inspired by Charo's famous words "Cuchi Cuchi," which she said on the "Ed Sullivan Show" in the 70s. They do not consider themselves a tapas restaurant, but instead pride themselves on serving "straight up" small dishes from all over the world, including a fingerling potato dish from Russia and Italian-inspired artichokes. They offer a few port wines as after-dinner drinks. Their selection consists of Burmester Ruby, Ramos Pinto Tawny and Ramos Pinto Collector. The sweeter, smaller portions may make the perfect after dinner spirit.

Dali offers several classic Spanish recipes on their menu including Patatas Bravas, Gambas con Gabardina, and Pato Braseado, to name a few. They offer a couple of delicious port wine selections, their most popular being the Taylor Fladgate 10-year Tawny, which is not too sweet and is a bit nutty.

Those who are looking to enjoy a really special night out will want to head to Davio's for steak or one of their delicious pasta dishes (try the butternut squash tortellini, if they have it). When ordering, be sure to try their most popular port wine, Warre's Otima 10-year Tawny. This lighter style Port is less full-bodied and is sometimes enjoyed throughout a meal, not just with dessert — that is, if you enjoy a sweeter drink with dinner. The wine has hints of butterscotch, pear tart, almond and vanilla, but is described as "delicate." The Warre Otima is quite popular amongst Port aficionados.

Although not on the menu, fans of Redd's In Rozzie say that they do offer a very good Port wine. It is believed that their selection changes, so you may want to keep that in mind before heading there with your heart set on ordering a Port. They have a great selection of desserts to pair as well.
