DePaul Student Sexually Assaulted, Robbed In Downtown Chicago: Campus Alert

(CBS) – A DePaul University student was drugged, sexually assaulted and robbed in downtown Chicago Friday night, according to an alert issued to DePaul attendees.

The male victim was walking near Congress and Wabash around 10:30 p.m. when someone jumped him from behind and incapacitated him "with a noxious substance on a cloth," the emailed alert to students said.

The student was dragged into an SUV, sexually assaulted and robbed before he was able to escape from the vehicle, which fled the scene.

DePaul University has a Loop campus. Officials declined to provide information, beyond forwarding to CBS 2 a copy of the email alert. Chicago Police News Affairs did not have any information about the incident.

CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports the alert has students on edge.

"I think this is crazy," said student Phil Stefanski. "I don't know what's going on with that but that freaks me out."

In a separate incident but on the same night, DePaul safety officials say a female student was walking near the Lincoln Park campus near Fremont and Belden when she was robbed.

The robbery happened shortly after midnight. We're told the student was approached from behind, then the offender grabbed her purse and ran away.

"When I came to Chicago, I like knew this type of stuff would happen but it's scary to think it's someone we know or at our school and it's like we could be that next DePaul student who is attacked," said Katelin Foley.
