Man Fatally Shot In San Francisco's SoMa, Near Hotel Where President Obama Is Staying

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A man was shot and killed on Tuesday night in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, not too far from where President Barack Obama is staying during his visit to the Bay Area.

The shooting was reported at Sixth and Mission streets at about 11:05 p.m., according to San Francisco police spokeswoman Sgt. Danielle Newman.  The 25-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 100 block of Sixth Street.

He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where police said he succumbed to his injuries.  No arrests have been made in the shooting.

Tuesday's shooting took place near the same spot where a man was shot and killed earlier in the day.  Police said 18-year-old Daniel Beltran was fatally shot near Sixth and Mission streets shortly after 5:00 a.m.  Police have not said if the two shootings might be related.

President Obama arrived in the Bay Area Tuesday night and is staying at the InterContinental Hotel on Howard Street.  He will be attending a pair of fundraisers, one in San Francisco and the other in Los Altos Hills.  He will be leaving the Bay Area Wednesday afternoon for Los Angeles.
