Zephyr Teachout Calls For Probe Into Cuomo's Long Island College Hospital Deal

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Zephyr Teachout is wrapping up her statewide campaign tour with a stop at the cash-strapped Long Island College Hospital.

The New York gubernatorial hopeful wants to lead an investigation into the transaction made during Gov. Andrew Cuomo's first term with a developer to turn it into condos, WCBS 880's Monica Miller reported.

"What Brooklyn needs is a hospital, not luxury developments by campaign contributors," she said. "We cannot afford to be that callous."

Teachout, a Fordham University law professor, is making up for lost time after she won an appeal to get on the ballot as a Democrat after Cuomo's supporters had challenged her residency requirement.

"Andrew Cuomo in his recent filing spent $2.5 million. That's $2.5 million trying to apparently get rid of me and get rid of a democratic primary," Teachout said.

So far, the governor has turned down an offer to debate Teachout.

The primary vote will be held on Sept. 9.
