Franklin Mills To Undergo Name Change And Multimillion Dollar Redevelopment

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia region's largest outlet and retail shopping center, Franklin Mills, will undergo a major renovation and name change.

Officials announce the multimillion dollar project includes major updates to the exterior and interior parts of the mall, including modernizing the front with new entrances and landscaping.

The redevelopment will brighten up the interior with skylights, new lighting and flooring. In addition, the renovation will include WiFi and lounging areas with charging stations.

"This center has served the shopping and entertainment needs of the Philadelphia region for more than 25 years, and we are excited to continue meeting those needs while elevating the experience for our customers and visitors," said Gregg Goodman, President of The Mills. "We are also proud that our center employs more than 2,500 area residents and generates millions of dollars a year in revenues for the city."

Officials say the name of the property has been changed to "Philadelphia Mills" to herald the renovation.

Construction is already in progress on exterior transformations, which are expected to be complete in fall 2014. Interior renovations will begin early 2015 with a grand re-opening scheduled for next fall.
