3 Killed, 8 Wounded In Citywide Violence Thursday
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three people were killed and eight others were wounded in violent attacks across Chicago Thursday, in addition to a robbery suspect shot by police on the South Side.
The most recent fatal shooting happened after an armed robbery attempt just before midnight in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
About 11:55 p.m., officers were on patrol near the 7900 block of South Justine when they saw two males in an alley approached by two others who announced a robbery, Chicago Police said in a statement.
The two robbers shot the two other males, then ran off as officers approached, police said. The officers pursued one male who turned and pointed a dark object in their direction. One officer then shot the male, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, according to Fraternal Order of Police Spokesman Pat Camden.
One of the males who was shot in the robbery was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition, Camden added.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the fatality but did not have additional details early Friday.
The other robbery suspect ran off and was not in police custody early Friday, police said. No officers were injured.
The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the shooting.
The other fatal shooting, a possible drive-by attack, happened in West Englewood earlier Thursday evening.
About 7:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of West 72nd Street, an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Stanley Bobo, who lived in the same block where he was shot, was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center at 9:23 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
An 18-year-old shot in the wrist was taken to the same hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
About an hour and a half earlier, a man was stabbed to death about 6 p.m. during a domestic incident at a Grand Boulevard neighborhood home, police said.
The 44-year-old man was stabbed in the chest in the 300 block of East 48th and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.
"All parties involved" in the stabbing remained at the scene but no charges were pending as of 9:30 p.m., police said.
Four teenagers were wounded in two separate shootings that happened within a two-block stretch of the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.
About 6:40 p.m., someone in a passing white van opened fire on three teens in the 800 block of North St. Louis, police said.
A 16-year-old boy shot in the thigh was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, and a 14-year-old girl shot in the leg also went to Mount Sinai, where her condition had stabilized, police said.
The family of a 15-year-old girl who suffered a graze wound to her right thigh took her to University of Chicago Medical Center. She was listed in good condition, police said.
At 8:35 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the right shoulder about two blocks away in the 3300 block of West Chicago, police said. His condition had stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Police said the shootings weren't thought to be related.
Late Thursday morning, a man was shot in East Garfield Park.
The 18-year-old, who has documented gang ties, walked into Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to the back at 11:11 a.m., police said. He told police he had been shot in the 3200 block of West Flournoy. His condition wasn't known.
About two hours earlier, a man was critically wounded when he was shot in the face in the Woodlawn neighborhood.
The shooting happened at 9:20 a.m. in the 6400 block of South King Drive. The 22-year-old man who was shot is a documented gang member, police said. He remains in critical condition at Christ Medical Center.
