Video Goes Viral Of Ailing Shane Morris Continuing To Play After Brutal Hit; Hoke Tries To Explain

By Christy Strawser

ANN ARBOR (CBS Detroit) The video speaks for itself -- a quarterback slammed to the ground gets up, clearly rattled and ailing, barely able to stand. His knees give out, his head briefly lolling to the side, as a teammate supports him on the field.

But when someone signals for a replacement, Shane Morris just keeps playing.

Many were outraged, including the ESPN game announcers, who clearly couldn't believe he continued to play after a brutal hit. "To have No. 7 in the game after a hit like that ... That is terrible looking after a young player," the ESPN announcer says, as video shows Morris grimacing and touching his helmet after the next play.

And many think Brady Hoke has to answer for it.

Asked what happened after the game, Hoke said this: "Shane wanted to be the quarterback. Believe me, if he didn't want to be, he would've come to the sideline, or (he would have) stayed down."

Michigan lost 30-14 against Minnesota.

So, did Morris have a concussion or head injury? The university says they handled the incident correctly.

After a furor erupted, Michigan released a statement that reads: "The safety of our student-athletes is always our top priority," and saying Morris was pulled from the game "after further aggravating an injury to his leg. … He was evaluated by our experienced athletic trainers and team physicians, and we're confident proper medical decisions were made."
