Vote Aims To Save Household Pets From Dinner Table

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio1020 KDKA) - You would never think that anyone would ever consider eating a cat or dog in this country.

Surprisingly, it is legal in Pennsylvania and only in this state.

State Rep. John Maher joined Larry Richert and John Shumway on the "KDKA Morning News" Monday and he spoke passionately about this disturbing issue.

"There's not a lot of data out there because it's not a crime," Repr. Maher said.

This issue also ties into the topic of pigeon shoots, which have been going on for more than a century.

Rep. Maher said that the initial bill was issued back in 1883 and there still hasn't been a vote on it.

Today is important because it is the day of the vote to stop the barbarism.

There are supposed to be a few rescue dogs, which were saved from these situations, in Harrisburg today to show that this is actually happening in our state.

"There will be a number of challenging questions on the horizon, but today will be the day of the vote," Rep, Maher said.

Rep. Maher is urging people to contact their local representatives to move this along.
