Person Reportedly Under Train At Downtown Berkeley BART Station Dies
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- The Downtown Berkeley BART station has reopened about three hours after a person died after reportedly being under a train Tuesday night, BART officials said.
A BART dispatcher said a report of a person under a train at the station came in around 6:35 p.m.
The station is located at 2160 Shattuck Ave. and was closed around 6:50 p.m., according to the dispatcher.
BART police, fire crews, medical personnel and Alameda County coroner's bureau responded to the scene, BART officials said.
Around 7:15 p.m., a BART police watch commander confirmed that the person was deceased, according to BART officials.
Trains did not stop at the Downtown Berkeley station and single-tracked through the station during the closure, the dispatcher said.
The station reopened around 10:10 p.m., according to BART officials.
Normal service has since been restored to the Richmond line in the Fremont direction though passengers have been advised to expect residual delays, BART officials said.
