RV Helps Settle Child Support Battles In NJ, NY Courts

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A new assistance program in New York and New Jersey seeks to help parents settle child support battles.

Project Child Support rolled out this week, literally on wheels, to offer parents low-cost legal advice outside court houses.

The project works out of a brightly painted RV. Employees hand out flyers and business cards and invite passing parents to discuss child support cases and payments with an attorney onboard. Sometimes, they even console parents as they leave court hearings.

Founder Kai Patterson says the project provides custodial parents with legal representation and investigative services to find parents who will not pay child support.

It also represents parents without custody who cannot afford to pay their set child support.
