Want A Cooler With A Built-In Blender, Bluetooth, And More? 'Coolest Cooler' Sets Kickstarter Record
By Edward Cardenas
SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - If the Coolest Cooler becomes reality, owners of the multi-faceted cooler will be the envy of tailgaters, parrotheads, fraternity brothers picnickers and cabin owners everywhere.
The cooler concept - complete with a built-in rechargeable 18-volt, ice crushing blender; a removable waterproof Bluetooth speaker and USB charger - was posted on the fundraiser website Kickstarter, with a goal of raising $50,000.
As of Friday, the 60-quart cooler project raised more than $11.7 million from 57,000 donors.
The portable party is the brainchild of inventor Ryan Grepper, who said in his YouTube video described his redesign of the 50-year-old cooler as I wanted a cooler that was really well-built yet had so much fun built into I would look for excuses to get outside and enjoy it." and use it."
The cooler - which is an alternative to carrying a wide-array of items to the beach or other outdoor events - also features:
- An LED lid light embedded in the lid to make it easier to find items in the cooler at night,
- Gear tie down bungees,
- Cooler divider/cutting board,
- Extra wide, easy rolling tires,
- Integrated storage for plates and knife,
- And a bottle opener.
Donations to the Kickstarter campaign can be made through Friday. Those who give to the campaign can receive a variety of rewards for their donations. A $5 donation will get their names written on Grepper's Coolest, while $185 will get donors a cooler once it goes into production.
The previous Kickstarter record was $10.26 for the Pebble smart watch, according to CBS.
According to the Kickstarter page, the Coolest Cooler may go into production in December and may be shipped by February.
