NOAA Winter Outlook: Delaware Valley Has Above Average Chance To See Wetter Than Average Winter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After such a cold, snowy winter last year, much of the nation has been dreading a repeat. Philadelphia was no exception, encountering one of the snowiest on record. With winter fast approaching, NOAA has released it's 2014-15 Winter Outlook.

In terms of precipitation, the Delaware Valley has an above average chance to see a wetter than average winter, especially closer to the coast.  Don't freak out just yet! This precipitation wouldn't be all snow. Temperature-wise, there is an equal chance of the temperatures being above or below normal. All in all, it is looking less likely that this winter will be as brutal as the last.

Keep in mind that this is the most likely outcome. There is no guarantee this will be exactly what happens. There are some conditions in the atmosphere which just can't be predicted on time-scales of an entire season. The purpose of this outlook is to give some insight into probable conditions, as well as to help the public become more climate-smart.
