Twitter Introduces Group Messaging, Mobile Videos

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Twitter users have two new features to allow users new methods for sharing messages on the social media service.

Users now have the option to record and share video filmed from the Twitter app on smart phones along with the ability to utilize the social media service for private, group messages similar to group texts on smart phones.

"We're rolling these features out to all users in the coming weeks," Jinen Kamdar, Twitter product director, in a blog post. "Starting now, you'll be able to participate in group conversations other people start with you, and watch any of the public videos users post."

The group function allows users to start conversations with any of their followers. Additionally, those in the group chat do not have to follow each other to participate. The Twitter blog post stated that once  a users is added to a group, they will get a notification.

Twitter users can also now capture, edit and share videos directly right from the Twitter app in the update. Previously users were only able to share videos on Twitter through the company's Vine app.

Videos - up to 30 seconds - can be filmed through a mobile video camera or upload videos from the camera roll. Users will also be able to edit on the app.

Here is what a video shot on the Twitter app looks like:
