Failed Suicide Pact Lands Elderly Couple In Hospital

ROSTRAVER TWP. (KDKA) -- A man and woman in their 80s were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a failed suicide pact.

Wilma Friday, 82, and Edward Friday, 80, were found lying in their apartment on Cedar Hills Boulevard in Rostraver Township Saturday evening.

"When the officers arrived, it was a pretty gruesome scene," said Rostraver Police Chief Greg Resatar.

Wilma was found in a pool of blood and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for emergency surgery. She was listed in critical condition Monday morning.

Police believe she attempted to slit her own throat, and when she failed her husband tried to help her.

Edward Friday was listed in stable condition at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Officers say he took 20 Oxycontin pills and was found with cuts to his wrist.

Edward Friday told authorities he and his wife had a suicide pact. The incident is being investigated as an attempted homicide.

"It's a heartbreaking story, but the scenario itself is very bizarre," said Chief Resatar.
