ACME Cashier Fights Back After Suspension For Wearing Patriotic Attire To Work
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A union cashier at the Bensalem, Bucks County ACME has been suspended after wearing a patriotic denim dress to work on Memorial Day. Now, she has filed a grievance against the company.
Donna Patrick, a single mother of four boys, was suspended last week for what ACME says was a violation of the dress code. She wore a denim, sleeveless dress with red, white and blue patches on the front to work.
"I have been working for ACME for 32 years. I've worn this dress probably 30 of the years that I remembered to wear it," Patrick said. "Everybody always said how patriotic I looked, and we've always dressed up for the holidays. I wear it four times a year: for Flag Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and 4th of July."
ACME's Dan Dosenbach says the dress code states employees cannot wear denim, short dresses or sleeveless attire.

Patrick says she believes management retaliating against her for forcing the company to follow labor law recently.
"I basically held the people accountable for going in seniority on the schedule," she said, "and that didn't fly over too well, because they have their favorite people that they want in certain spots in the store."
A meeting is set for June 21 between ACME and UCFW Local 1776 about the grievance.
