High-Achieving Twin Brothers From Tujunga Both Bound For Yale

TUJUNGA (CBSLA.com) — It's common to see twin brothers -- Arthur and Artin Kasumyan – together.

The Verdugo Hills High School seniors have shared all of their classes and even their sentences at times.

Now, they'll head to prestigious Yale University together.

Like so many other seniors, this will be the first time the twins from Tujunga will leave home.

"Your transitioning to college and you want to have someone there you're familiar with in such an unfamiliar environment," said

The two played on the varsity basketball and volleyball teams and started the school's Armenian club.

They admit they are quite competitive and push each other in all things.

Artin will graduate next week Valedictorian, while Arthur is the school's salutatorian.

"They bring challenge into the environment, with the other kids as well," said Elva Guevara-Lewis, a teacher.

They've taken all of the AP courses possible, even when it meant skipping a favorite.

"We also wanted to take AP computer science, which is also what I'm going to major in – computer science, so we had to choose between playing basketball and we chose AP computer science but I'm really glad we did that," said

His brother will major in mechanical engineering - like their father - who always had three rules for his sons.

"The first is discipline, the second one is respect and the third one is commitment," he said.

These parents are proud and credit LAUSD and Verdugo Hills High for much of the success but mom admits it's a little bittersweet to see her sons leave home.

"This is very big for our family and for them too. Leaving home, for me, when I think about that, I'm having a hard time," she said.

Both boys have received Quest Bridge scholarships, which are given to high achieving students who come from low income families.

They both hope to continue working together when they start an Armenian club at Yale.
