Why You May Have Noticed More Chipmunks Around Lately

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) -- As we quickly approach Summer next week, people are noticing furry little critters darting around the yard or on the running trail.

Katie McAfee -- the animal curator at Briar Bush Nature Center in Abington, Montgomery County -- says each pair of chipmunks has two to five babies, so that's a lot of extra chipmunks darting around:

"It's just because we're getting the spike in the young right now, and we'll actually see it again in late summer."

They'll have another litter late summer when we'll see that spike again.

That's when we'll also see those babies come out again.
