Republican Sen. Kirk: Fundraising More Challenging Here With Trump Atop Ticket

WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore

(CBS) -- Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk says he's not worried that having the controversial Donald Trump at the top of the GOP ticket will hurt his tough re-election race.

Kirk, however, admits fundraising is a little harder among Republican donors because of uncertainty over Trump's candidacy.

Kirk is no longer supporting Trump. But he is focusing on the strong challenge he faces from Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth.

Kirk slams Duckworth for settling a lawsuit filed by employees she fired while she was Illinois Secretary of Veteran's Affairs under ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich. He often links the two.

He says Duckworth was putting "Blagojevich-style politics" ahead of Veterans' health care.

But the Duckworth campaign says Duckworth always put protecting veterans first, and accuses Kirk of misrepresenting what was, in their words, a frivolous workplace case.

Duckworth lost her legs in combat in Iraq.
