Chris Davis Talks Orioles Success, Casey Cares & The Flu

Orioles first baseman Chris Davis joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the Orioles season so far, the flu bug that bit the club recently, the seventh annual Casey Cares 5k run/walk coming up on August 6 at Camden Yards and much more.

The Orioles are a season high 18 games above .500 at 58-40 and sit atop the AL East. Davis spoke about what has made the club successful, "It's a group effort really to make sure that you're maintaining your focus and continuing to go out and prepare the same, day in and day out. We have a good clubhouse… It's almost like we have that perfect mix of experience and energy. We've been doing a good job of keeping a level head and staying after it."

The Orioles clubhouse including Davis was affected by the flu after the all-star break. Davis talked about the challenges the club faced during that stretch. "Obviously we had a number of guys that got sick and missed some time. That's part of the battle. You're not going to be able to control sickness and how you feel, but you just kind of take it in stride and keep going," said Davis.

Chris Tillman has been spectacular for the Orioles this season leading the club with 14 wins. Davis discussed what has been different for Tillman this season: "I think he's really starting to learn a lot more about himself and really understand the fact that he doesn't have to go out there and strike everyone out. If he goes out there and executes his game plan and really trusts the guys around him, he can be successful."

Chris Davis will serve as the race ambassador for the seventh annual Casey Cares 5k run/walk at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Saturday, August 6. Scott & Jeremy asked Davis how working with the community has had an effect on him. "It's a way to keep things in perspective and make you realize what's important. We're proud to be a part of that and proud to give back to the community anyway we can."
