Bloodhound Helps Deputies Find Kidnapped Girl In Woods Of San Bernardino County

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com) — A bloodhound helped San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies find a 16-year-old girl kidnapped by an older teenage boy in Twin Peaks, according to deputies.

The frightening ordeal began around 1:15 a.m. Monday when the girl's grandmother called 911 and reported that her granddaughter was being kidnapped by 18-year-old Logan Padberg, according to Gil Flores, public information officer for the Sheriff's Department.

While deputies searched for the girl, a neighbor on Lake Forest Drive called 911 and reported seeing "a male holding a flashlight and dragging a female off into the woods by her hair," Flores wrote.

"A female matching that description being pulled into the darkness of the forest." Deputy Jay Bailey said. "With the help of Déja, the bloodhound, we were able to locate some evidence or some scent articles on scene."

Déja sniffed out the drag marks in the woods. Within minutes, she tracked the victim to a home in the 26000 block of Boulder Lane.

"Purse was laying on the ground right there. So that's where we started," said Deputy Josh Stone, the dog's handler.

"She took us through the woods. We popped out onto a street, and we started going through a mountain neighborhood. She just started circling around a house. I let her work it out, let her work it out. She went to the front door and wouldn't leave," Stone explained.

Deputies said they found the girl inside the home, and she was OK.

Padberg was arrested without incident and faces a series of charges, including kidnapping, domestic battery and unlawful sex with a minor.
