Best Up-And-Coming Minnesota Bands To Check Out In 2016

Minnesota is a state full of musical talent and a land of many bands. While most of them put on a good show, some actually have what it takes to gain a bigger following. With all of the shows going on throughout the weekends, it can be hard to know which ones are worth the cover charge. These bands were born in Minnesota and have been playing around the state for awhile, however, they are the ones worth seeing before venues get sold out as they gain a large group of followers.

Hustle Rose

A Minnesota favorite, Hustle Rose has played packed venues such as First Ave. and the Dakota Jazz Club. A group of friends that went to high school together in Minneapolis formed a band that has stood the test of time. After adding a horn section, Hustle Rose was able to put out the funky blues sound they had fallen in love with. Their shows are fantastic and energetic, likely to push them to the top of the local favorites list.

Har-di-Har is the child of couple Julie and Andrew Thoreen. This talented duo has combined their love of music and creativity into a genre they call "freak-pop." Many of their tracks consist of three instruments and only two musicians, leaving them both to play the third together. An interesting and fun show as well as a great sound, Har-di-Har has travelled from music school in Iowa back to Minnesota and around the state to share their sound and talents with all.

It's cool when a bunch of friends who are also musicians can get together and start a band. However, the band is rarely something special. This is not the case with The Dirty Banks. Five food friends and coworkers had kicked around the idea of a band for awhile and finally went for it in 2013. With instruments that range from guitar to electric piano, they put out great music and put on a great show as well. The Dirty Banks has the reputation of drawing a great crowd and a following that seems to grow with every show. They are almost guaranteed to take over the music scene in Minneapolis this year.
