Educators, School Workers Join Philando March In Mpls.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hundreds of teachers, school workers and members of Black Lives Matter took to the streets of downtown Minneapolis Tuesday to protest the shooting death of Philando Castile.
He was killed by a St Anthony Police officer during a traffic stop two weeks ago.
Castile, 32, worked for St. Paul Public Schools since he was 19. He had a supervising role in the lunch room at J.J. Hill Montessori School for the last two years.
Educators with the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers, as well as community members, joined in the march. They say they are upset over Castile's death and the violence in their community.
The protest started at the Minneapolis Convention Center, where a national teacher conference was taking place.
Several of the protesters were arrested for blocking an intersection.
