Allentown Waives Pool Fees Ahead Of Heat Wave

ALLENTOWN, PA (CBS) – If you haven't heard this weekend July 22-24 is going to be hot, to say the least.

To combat the scorching temperatures, the city of Allentown has announced that they will waive all fees at all city pools starting Saturday July 24.

While most Pennsylvanian's are used to dealing with the July heat, CBS3 meteorologists predict 90 degree temperatures and high humidity will make it feel like triple degree weather.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski hopes it will give residents the chance to cool off and escape the dangerous heat and humidity.

"We are happy to provide this relief for all city residents to ensure their safety and give everyone a chance to escape from the heat," Pawlowski said

According to the National Weather Service, the excessive heat will create hazardous conditions and the potential for heat related health issues will be high especially for the elderly and for those already in poor health.

Residents are advised to stay out of the sun, wear loose and light -colored clothing, and to check on elderly relatives and neighbors.

The waiver will be in effect for the remainder of the pool season during the days and times identified by the National Weather Service (NWS) for "Excessive Heat Watch".
