Researchers Say Your Dog Understands You, He Just Has Selective Hearing

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new study suggests that your dog may understand some of what you're saying.

Researchers from Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest scanned the brains of dogs as they were listening to their trainer speaking. They used functional magnetic resonance imaging to witness how man's best friend processed what people say and how they say it.

According to CNet,the researchers tried speaking praise in both a neutral and praising tone, and neutral words in both a neutral and praising tone.

They found the dogs processed words with the left hemisphere, and the used the right hemisphere to process pitch- just like people.

The dogs only registered that they were being praised if the words and pitch were positive.
