Two Young Sisters Visit All Chicago Neighborhoods

CHICAGO (CBS) – Two young girls explored over the summer 77 of Chicago's neighborhoods.

7-year-old Audrey and 5-year-old Evelyn went on a family mission this summer to visit 77 of Chicago neighborhoods.

The mission started when the girls found a book they found at the Norwood Park library. "The Chicago 77" contains a map with 77 of the city's neighborhoods, which is how the girls planned out their adventure. The library tracked their journey.

"I think they didn't realize how big the city was," said Marissa Covert, mother of the girls. "We'd jump in the car, drive for an hour and a half to the other side of the city and you'd think we were in a different state."

From Humboldt Park on the West Side, to Garfield Park on the South Side, the girls explored all of what Chicago has to offer. The girls and their family were able to visit parks, coffee shops, and even a national monument. While touring city hall, Audrey and Evelyn met Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

"It was important to visit every single community," Covert said. "Didn't want to leave anything out regardless of what that meant."

Audrey and Evelyn make their final two stops Friday, before heading back to school in a few weeks.

"You don't have to fly halfway across the world," Covert said. "You can explore right in the city we live in."
