Man Gunned Down Just Feet From His Hunting Park Home

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police say one person is dead after a shooting late last night in the city's Hunting Park section. Two men are in custody after witnesses tipped off the authorities.

It was just after 11 p.m. when shots rang out on West Annsbury Street. Chief inspector Scott Small says the 42-year-old victim was gunned down from point blank range.

"He was laying on the sidewalk, totally unresponsive, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the head. He was laying on the sidewalk just inches from his front door."

The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, four spent shell casings were found near where the victim was found, indicating the man was shot from point blank range.

Witnesses told police they saw a man in a gray-hooded sweatshirt running from the scene after the gunfire was heard and also saw a white sedan speeding off. Authorities radioed that information and a car matching the description was found around the corner by 8th and Wingohocking streets.

Inside the vehicle, police found two men and that gray sweatshirt. Those two men are now in police custody.

The 42-year-old victim has not been identified.

Police are now trying to figure out a motive for the crime.
