Group Pitches In To Provide Free Rides During SEPTA Strike
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's day four of the city transit walkout.
A nonprofit known for shoveling snow for seniors, is expanding its services during the walkout.
The group ABC Men, Inc. is using its newly-donated van to provide free rides during the SEPTA strike: Rides for seniors who need to go to medical appointments, kids who need to go to school, or anyone else.
Jackie Wleh is ABC's director, and he's driving the 15-seat van.
He say riders see the 'FREE TRANSPORTATION' sign on the side, and they can hardly believe it.
Election Day Concerns As SEPTA Strike Continues
"Many times, even when the van is parked downtown they'll look, like, 'Is this real? Is this real?' And they say that to me before they even enter, 'Is this real?' And we're like, 'Yeah. This is real.'"
He's been driving the routes of the Market-Frankford El and the Broad Street line, with detours as riders request them.
