Police: NJ Woman, Great-Granddaughter Go Missing Traveling To NC On Christmas Eve

HAMILTON Twp, NJ (CBS) - Authorities in New Jersey, Virginia and North Carolina are looking for a 71-year-old Mays Landing woman and her  five-year-old great granddaughter.

According to family, Barbara Briley left New Jersey on Christmas Eve to take her great granddaughter La'Myra Briley with her to visit family in Morven, North Carolina.

Around 6 or 7 p.m. Briley got off Interstate 95 in Ruther Glen, Virginia and became confused about her location.

She asked for directions at an Exxon Station and was helped by clerk Joanna Strange, according CBS's Richmond affiliate.

Around 8 p.m., Briley told her son she was stuck in traffic in Caroline County, Virginia and that was the last time anyone heard from Briley.

Tonya Floyd, who is Barbara Briley's daughter and La'Myra's grandmother and legal guardian, says the little girl went with her great grandmother to spend time with family around Christmas.

Floyd says she had to stay in New Jersey so she couldn't make the trip with La'Myra, whose parents are not a regular part of the five-year-old's life.

Briley was driving a Toyota Rav 4 with a NJ license plate C80ELS.

Anyone with information should contact Hamilton Township Detective Robison at 609-625-2700 ext. 578
