Report: Manufacturer Could Settle Criminal Charges Over Exploding Takata Airbags

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The manufacturer of Takata airbags could plead guilty to criminal misconduct soon.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Takata could be on the hook for up to $1 billion. This would be due to its handling of exploding airbags in millions of cars.

Those airbags were linked to 11 deaths and 184 injuries in the United States alone.

The recall is the largest automotive safety recall in American history.
