Man Killed In Police-Involved Shooting Is Same Suspect Who Ran Down Philly Cop, Authorities Say

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) — A man was shot and killed by police in Delaware after a struggle with officers, and authorities say it was the same person who hit a Philadelphia police officer with his van and dragged him Wednesday night.

Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Leroy Brown.

In Delaware, New Castle County Police say Brown got into a struggle with officers who ended up shooting and killing him.

New Castle County Police said in a statement that officers chased Brown on foot to a parked car. He then tried to flee the area in the vehicle.

Police say an officer then tried to apprehend Brown when he "engaged in conduct" which resulted in the officer shooting him.

Brown was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Hours earlier, at 5:30 last night, Philadelphia police went to 56th Street and Whitby Avenue. They got a call for a man with a gun in a domestic dispute.

Police say the officers saw a man trying to drag a woman out of a minivan. Four young children were also in the minivan at the time.

Capt. Sekou Kinebrew says officers approached, Brown hit reverse, hit one of the cops and dragged him several feet.

That's when Kinebrew says the officer got his gun out.

"Discharged his weapon one time. We're unsure at this time if the officer struck the subject and the vehicle did proceed away from this location at a high rate of speed."

Police then found the minivan miles away but it was empty.
