Police Investigating Suspicious Death Of Infant
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are investigating the suspicious death of an infant in Southwest Philadelphia.
Police say the 6-week-old baby boy was found unresponsive at a home in the 5800 block of Willows Avenue, and was rushed to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby sometime Friday morning.
The infant was then airlifted to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He was pronounced dead around 12:30 p.m.
Police say the death is being considered "suspicious" because there has been no information yet to determine if it was intentional.
Neighbors who had not yet heard of the loss told Eyewitness News that they also had no idea an infant was inside of the home.
Neighbor Pauline Parrich raised nine children. While the exact circumstances surrounding this baby's death have not been made public, she feels that the term "suspicious" means "discarded" and has a message for those struggling to care for an infant
"If you have a child and you don't want it, give it to adoption, carry it to the police precinct--leave it and say I can't manage this baby, I can't take care of this baby, but don't destroy a life," she said.
The cause of the baby's is still under investigation.
