Police: Pregnant Woman Found Dead After Suspicious House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia police are continuing their investigation into a suspicious fire that left a pregnant woman dead over the weekend.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2100 block West Susquehanna Avenue.

A 35-year-old woman, who was about five months pregnant, was found dead inside the home, police say.

Detectives are still puzzled on how she died, after the medical examiner is unable to immediately determine a cause of death.

Her body was found on the second floor of a the home.

A fire marshal is still trying to determine the cause of the fire, while police investigate whether the woman was already dead before the fire started.

"Every time I walk past year I see her she smiling and just to pass here and see this I'm in a shock," said Celestine McClinton who lives nearby.

Police have not identified the pregnant woman at this time.

The cloud of suspicion around her death comes after investigators say the fire itself seems suspicious.

"People around here if y'all saw anything, please! Snitching we have to stop with this, 'I don't want to snitch I'm scared!' No! You have to stop because it could be your child one day," said McClinton.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
