1 Dead, 2 Injured In Separate Shootings Throughout Germantown
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fatal shooting overnight has become the latest in an upward homicide trend in Philadelphia.
There were three shootings in all overnight in Germantown.
Neighbors said they heard four to five shots near Pulaski and Seymour, then saw two people running north toward Wayne Avenue. A 20-year-old was hit multiple times and died.

Overnight, there also was a 28-year-old man shot on Walnut Lane near Belfield Avenue, and a 23-year-old was shot on Morlan Street near Wayne Avenue. Both those men survived but are in critical condition.
The homicide on Seymour is part of a broader trend of more murders this year. According to Philadelphia Police, there have been 156 so far in 2017, 24 more than the same time last year.
The murder rate is the highest it has been since 2012 when there were 185 murders during the first half of the year. Five years ago was the last time Philly saw more than 300 people killed in a single year.
City crime mapping shows most of the murders this year, about 85 happened in North Philly. The hardest hit area appears to be a three-block area around McPherson Square, where there have been nine homicides.

In Germantown, state Rep. Stephen Kinsey will host a safety meeting Thursday night with police.
It was already scheduled because of some other recent issues. However, with all the violence overnight, he expects a much needed community conversation.
"When you go from a relatively quiet neighborhood, to having gunpoint robberies and shootings take place, it heightens awareness of the people in the community," Kinsey said. "So this meeting tomorrow is going to bring up a lot of discussion."
Police said that although homicides may be up year-to-year, Philadelphia has seen roughly the same number of shootings as it did during the same time in 2016.
