Man Allegedly Drives Into 2 People During Road Rage Incident On Long Island

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Westbury man is under arrest after an apparent road rage hit-and-run that took place in Mineola on Sunday.

Nassau County Police said Anthony Scott got into an argument with three other people in another car over a parking space at Jericho Turnpike near the intersection of Mineola Boulevard at 4:55 p.m.

Police said Scott was involved in a "brief physical altercation" with the three victims, who then started walking back to the sidewalk.

Scott then allegedly ran into two of the three with his car

"He caused the victim to bounce off the hood of the car, she strikes the pavement and he runs over her legs," Nassau County Police Detective Vincent Garcia said Monday. "The male holds on to the windshield wipers and Scott brakes abruptly, and he suffers a head and neck injuries."

Both victims, a 52-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their injuries are not considered life threatening, police said.

Defense attorney Dennis Lemke says Scott's primary concern are the victims who were hurt.

"First thing he said to me was 'How are they? I hope they're okay'," Lemke said. "He just wanted me to wish them a speedy recovery."

Scott's license plate was taken down during the incident and he was arrested later at his home, police said.

Authorities said Scott was found with THC, Oxycodone and Alprazolam at the time of his arrest, which wasn't his first run in with the law. He was arrested in October, accused of using a fake badge, a real gun, and flashing lights to impersonate a police officer and pull over the victim.

This time, Scott's license plate was taken down during the incident and he was arrested later at his home, police said.

Scott faces assault, weapons possession, reckless endangerment, possession of controlled substance, and leaving the scene of an accident charges.
