NYPD: 3 Wanted In Violent Robbery Of Bronx Delivery Man

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A delivery man was ambushed and beaten while just trying to do his job in the Bronx recently, and the search was on for the assailant Thursday.

As CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported, the incident happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24. It was caught on surveillance video.

The video shows the scheming trio – described as being in their late teens or early 20s – lurking in the hallway near the stairwell at 1356 Walton Ave. The victim, a 46-year-old Chinese food delivery man was dropping off food, police said.

The suspects are seen waiting for the man at the bottom of the stairwell, where police said they then take turns punching him. Police said the trio then stole $150 from the victim and fled.

The man suffered a laceration to his face, but refused medical attention.

The video left residents gasping in disbelief.

"Jesus !" said Luis Ramos of Concourse, the Bronx.

"Oh my God!" said Araceli Zempo of Concourse.

"It's terrible to see that," said building resident Jose Rosario.

"It is sad, because nobody should be treated that way; in that manner," Ramos said. "It is very sad."

It is not clear how the group got into the building, which does have a door that is locked from the outside.

Police are now sharing the video, in hopes that someone may recognize the suspects and help detectives find them before they can attack again.

In the meantime, Zempo said she is sticking to her routine of staying home after dark.

"It's dangerous," she said.

Even with cameras and officers on patrol, she said such incidents reinforce that you can never be too careful.

"You're living here, expecting everything is safe because the police is outside. No more. Not anymore," Zempo said. "I'm scared."
