1 Dead In Overnight House Fire In Westfield, New Jersey

WESTFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- One person is dead after a fire engulfed a home overnight in Westfield, New Jersey.

The flames broke out at a house around 2:46 a.m. Monday on Prospect Street.

Fire officials believe the blaze started on the first floor and then spread, with flames pouring out of the roof, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.

"There were two others able to get out and fortunately, they are OK but the other occupant is not," said Westfield Fire Chief David Kelly said.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased victim.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
