Police: 4 Injured, 2 In Custody After Officer-Involved Shooting

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two people are now in custody after stray bullets hit three people in downtown Minneapolis very early Monday morning.

Police said multiple shots were fired from a parking lot on Hennepin Avenue. Two people were arguing at the Atrium Apartments, where about eight shots were fired. It happened at about 2 a.m., right when the bars in the Warehouse District were letting out and a lot of people were on the streets.

The Sunday night crowd was even larger than normal because of Sunday's Pride Festival. Police said there was an argument in this apartment parking lot on 4th Street and Hennepin Avenue, where multiple shots were fired. The bullets flew across the street and entered the large crowd of people spilling outside of the Gay 90's Bar.

Three innocent people were shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries. One witness who was at the bar when the shots were fired described the atmosphere as scary and chaotic.

"A lot of people were scared that something could still happen because they didn't know if it was a hate crime or what it might have been," said Chris Juhn, who witnessed the shooting.

Authorities say the three people hit outside the Gay 90's Bar were innocent victims and had nothing to with the argument that led up to the shooting. They are all expected to survive.

The two people in an argument were both armed, according to police.

"Officers were in the area at the time. They actually saw and heard the shootings and they chased two suspects," said Kris Arneson with Minneapolis Police.

Police say that fearing the public's safety, an officer shot one of the suspects, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Both suspects are now in custody and the three innocent victims are now recovering. Police said the shootings weren't at all related to the Pride Weekend events.

The officer involved in the shooting was placed on three-day administrative leave, and the Minneapolis Police Department's Homicide and Internal Affairs Units are investigating the shooting. Both the leave and the investigation are routine.
