Former BU Hockey Player Admits Groping Classmate, Gets 2 Years Probation
BRIGHTON (CBS) - Former Boston University hockey player Corey Trivino was given two years probation Tuesday after he admitted to groping a classmate in a dormitory last year.
Trivino, 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and battery and one count of trespassing for the attack on a resident adviser December 11.
The victim, a 23-year-old BU graduate student, made a dramatic statement in Brighton District Court Tuesday, saying she's had trouble sleeping, eating, and even going out in public since the incident.
"Imagine a nightmare that you never wake up from," she says. "Imagine dreading waking up because your life has become so overwhelming that you would rather sleep and avoid it all than wake up to face each day."
She said her body reacts with terror when she thinks of Trivino and that the assault, in her words, made her world fall apart.
"I cannot look men in the eye when I walk down the street. Let alone date or have a relationship with a man because I am too afraid that they are going to assault me," said the victim.
Trivino took the witness stand and personally apologized to the victim.
"I'm just sorry for everything she had to go through because of that night," said Trivino.
His lawyer admitted that Trivino has a serious alcohol problem and he told the court that he is taking steps to address it.
In addition to probation, which the victim agreed with, the judge ordered Trivino to remain alcohol-free, submit to random urine testing, attend weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, undergo a mental health evaluation, and have no contact with the victim.
